Is it’s fair for a restaurant to charge an additional fee if the fee isn’t disclosed on its website or otherwise communicated to the customer beforehand? My girlfriends and I went to a restaurant last night and were charged a cake-cutting fee that we weren’t made aware of until after the cake came out. While the fee itself wasn’t a significant amount, I feel it would have been more appropriate to inform us about it in advance.
I’ve also experienced similar situations at other restaurants, such as credit card processing surcharges that are only disclosed in small print at the bottom of the menu. I understand that restaurants have policies and additional costs, but shouldn’t customers be made aware of these charges before they agree to them? Would this affect how you leave your review?
